Six slayed as car plunges into canal near Pollachi

The accident took place at Gedimedu at 1.30 a.m. when they were returning home after visiting a temple in Palani.

Six persons, including two children, were killed after the sedan they were travelling in plunged into a canal near Pollachi in Coimbatore, early Wednesday.


The police said that all the deceased were related to each other, and belonged to Masakalipalayam in Coimbatore.


The deceased have been identified as R. Prakash (45), a cable operator, his wife P. Chitra (40), their daughter Pooja (8), Prakash’s sister Sumathi (50), Prakash’s sister in law P. Latha (42) and her child Dharani (9).


The accident took place at Gedimedu near Pollachi at 1.30 a.m. when the six persons were returning home after visiting a temple in Palani. They were travelling from Udumalpet via Pollachi to Coimbatore.


Fire brigades taking out the car which plunged into an irrigation canal near Pollachi killing six persons in the early hours of March 13.
